PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a greening method for preventing insect damage, reducing a cost by eliminating the use of a spacer like a coil spring, and excellent in workability, to provide a vegetation mat and an insect damage preventing member having a chewing inhibitor, to be used for the method, and to provide a greening structure. SOLUTION: This greening method for growing plants on a vegetated surface 4 includes laying the vegetation mats 1 and 1' set with the chewing inhibitor 6 in a condition of leaving a plant growing space 7, on the vegetated surface 4.
