<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for gastrointestinal tract diseases which produces little side effect on the living body and is highly safe thereto by utilizing an extract of plant leaves and stems. <P>SOLUTION: What are provided are a prophylactic and therapeutic composition for gastrointestinal tract diseases such as esophagitis, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, stomach cancer, or duodenal cancer, and inflammatory intestinal diseases which contains raw or dried products of leaves and stems of purple potatoes such as purple potato produced in Okinawa, Bise potato, Ayamurasaki potato, Nakamurasaki potato, Tanegashima murasaki potato, and Yamagawa murasaki potato, and treated products of purple potatoes, such as products prepared by subjecting the leaves and stems to a combination of at least two members selected from among grinding, shredding, drying, roasting, extraction, ultrasonic homogenization, lyophilization, heat treatment, enzymatic treatment, fermentation, and the like and a functional food, food material or like for the prophylaxis and amelioration of gastrointestinal tract diseases. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
