PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and industrially advantageously producing a high-purity product in high yield without carrying out a dehydration operation in the production of a 2-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)-fatty acid chloride. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 2-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)-fatty acid chloride includes reacting 2,4-di-tert-amylphenol of 1 mol with an alkali metal hydroxide of 2.8-3.5 molar times in the presence of an aromatic organic solvent without removing the produced water to the exterior of the reaction system to afford an alkali metal salt of the 2,4-di-tert-amylphenol, reacting the resultant salt at a temperature of 40-80°C by adding a 2-bromo-fatty acid of 1.0-1.2 molar times, further reacting the product with the 2-bromo-fatty acid of 0.1-0.5 molar time at a temperature of 40-80°C by dividedly adding the 2-bromo-fatty acid to afford 2-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)-fatty acid, and reacting the resultant 2-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)-fatty acid with a chlorination agent to afford the objective 2-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)-fatty acid chloride.
