PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that protects an imaging apparatus body from the impact of dropping. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes a housing accommodating an imaging functional section that images a subject image; an impact-absorbing section moving between the storage position, in which the impact absorbing section is stored in the housing and the projecting position in which the section projects from the housing; a dropping detection part that detects dropping of the housing; and a driving section that moves the impact absorbing section to the projecting position, when the fall detecting section detects dropping of the housing, wherein the impact-absorbing section is disposed at the top where a face of the housing intersects a ridgeline bordering the face.
