A method for easy holding of a trash bag in a trash can: The method comprises of at least one retainer. Each retainer is made of two magnetically coupled pieces which can engage or disengage with each other, with one of the two pieces (the 1st retainer piece) affix to an outside portion of the trash can or integrate into its side(s). Placing the bottom portion of a trash bag inside the trash can with part of the outside portion being captured by the two retainer pieces in the coupled state, a portion (portions) of the trash bag is (are) folded around part(s) of the 1st retainer piece. The folding(s) reduces the force needed to hold the trash bag in place at the coupling portion of the two retainer pieces. The apparatus can be easily operated with one hand, making it very convenient to use.
