<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve starting characteristics in emitting light from a lamp and to suppress generation of the dark portion of a bulb in the vicinity of a cavity bottom surface. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp includes a spherical part 101 which is almost spherical and the inside of which is applied with a phosphor 105, a neck part 102 extending from the spherical part 102, a cavity 103 formed to be recessed from the neck part 102 toward the inside of the spherical part 101, and an exhaust pipe 104 formed to be protruded from the cavity bottom surface 103a toward a cavity opening 103b, and further includes the bulb 100 the inside of which is filled with a discharge gas and which is made of a light-transmissive material, and a metal wire 106 disposed in the vicinity of the cavity bottom surface 103a in the spherical part 101. The cavity bottom surface 103a is formed by an inclined surface which comes closer to a cavity side surface 103c as it approaches the cavity opening 103b, defining a spherical edge 104a of an opening of the exhaust pipe as the top. The phosphor 105 is applied to the cavity bottom surface 103a and the cavity side surface 103b and only the spherical edge 104a of the exhaust pipe opening abuts on the metal wire 106.
