<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent loss of data by recovering original data even when transfer of the data fails due to a fault and the like on another storage device side when the copyright-protected data are moved to the other storage device. <P>SOLUTION: When the copyright-protected data are transferred, duplicated data 107 encrypted by a special duplication encryption key 409 are held in a source side device 101. The transferred data are verified, and if the data 111 are defective due to a fault and the like during the transfer, the transferred data are canceled, and the original data 105 are recovered from the duplication data 107. In this way, loss of the original data can be prevented while protecting the copyright.
