A multimedia content transmission system (e.g. satellite, cable or Internet Protocol television) transmits a plurality of broadcast channels. A user of apparatus such as a home entertainment system (200) with a set-top-box (202) provides a first input on a device such as a remote control (218) selecting one of the broadcast channels and thereby sets a current broadcast channel setting. An interactive content screen 300 having image areas such as windows 308, 320 and 336 for displaying media elements is then generated in response to a second user input. The media elements are selected in dependence on the current channel setting. The media elements may be a preview of future programme recommendations 308 or video-on-demand (VOD) 320, allowing a user to provide a further input to set for recording or a reminder or VOD transmission. The media elements may relate to interactive services such as survey, game, quiz, poll, stock quote, ticketing or shopping services. The media elements may be information messages 336 relating to sports, politics, weather etc. The interactive content screen may be displayed on a separate multimedia system such as a phone, laptop or tablet computer. |
