Provided is an organic EL element having an organic layer that acts as a positive hole injection layer or positive hole transport layer formed from a material having excellent application properties and film formability without the conventional problem associated with being attached to the hole injection layer, in essence, contamination by impurities attributed to dopant such as PSS. The organic electroluminescent element comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a light-emitting layer interposed between the positive and negative electrodes, and an organic layer that is formed between the positive electrode and light-emitting layer as a positive hole injection layer or positive hole transport layer contacting the positive electrode, and the organic layer contains metal microparticles and a dispersant having curable functional groups.
