<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for managing structured documents which achieves syntax analysis which restrains a memory usage quantity even if a processing logic of an application is altered; and to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: A state transition table 119, which stores a result of pre-analysis in which a pre-analysis part 116 analyzes a parent/child/brother attribute relational pattern in structure units of a structured document, is added to a structured-document XML analysis processing part 103. A state transition table searching part 117, which has a function to transit the state transition table 119 along the result of the pre-analysis, and a memory-saving element node generating part 118, which has a function to generate an element node which restrains a memory usage quantity when a state transition occurs, are also added. Structured documents, which become the input for applications, are equal, in many cases, in parent/child/brother attributive relation, and accordingly the probability of the success of a state transition is high along the state transition table 119.
