<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery including a spiral electrode group which can swiftly and uniformly be impregnated with an electrolyte and also suppress generation of buckling, and further functions with positive and negative electrode plates and a separator mutually adhered without a gap; and to provide a manufacturing method suitably manufacturing the spiral electrode group using the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the spiral electrode group 1, assuming the thickness of an electrode laminate 7 laminated with a stripe positive pole plate 2 and a stripe negative pole plate 3, and a pair of separators 4A and 4B interposed therebetween is t, the maximum diameter in the cross section of the spiral electrode group 1 wound with the electrode laminate 7 is W, and a coefficient having a value of 0.005-0.05 preset based on the expansion coefficient of each active substance of the positive and negative pole plates 2 and 3 is k, the spiral electrode group 1 is wound so that a difference L between circumferential lengths on the mutually adjacent inner circumferential side and outer circumferential side of the wound electrode laminate 7 satisfies a relation L=2tπ+W×k.
