Innovative, adjustable, attractive new design of shoe, the upper of which is provided with two lateral quarters, an inner quarter (1) provided on the inside with a tightening band (3) secured to an elastic element attached to an anchor point and emerging through said quarter via a slot (8) or eyelet, said tightening band (3) being provided with a touch and close strip (S) intended on its inside to collaborate with a complementary strip (6) set into a recess (4) provided on the quarter opposite said quarter (2), said inner (1) and outer (2) quarters having an extension (1, 2) directed towards one another, characterized in that said extensions (1, 2) project forward at an angle and in that at least the extension (2) of the outer quarter (2) is of a length such that it extends beyond the middle part of the instep in order to cover the instep on fitting, so that the length of overlap of the extension (2a) of the first quarter (2) in the case of a wide foot passes over the extension (1a) of the opposite quarter (1) as far as a position situated between the slot or eyelet (8), the point at which the tightening band (3) emerges, and the upper edge of the free end (12) of the extension (1a) of said opposite quarter (1) or, in the case of a narrow foot, passes under the extension (1a) of the opposite quarter (1) without in this case being restricted by the region at which the tightening band (3) emerges so that the tightening band (3) as it extends will extend as far as its free end (12) of the extension (1a) of the quarter (1) and pass over a part of the extension (2a) so that said extension (1a) straddles the extension (2a).
