The coated article (200) comprises an antibacterial coating (1 ) on a glass susbtrate (3), the substrate (3) having a modified surface layer (2) which essentially reduces the ion exchange between silver in the antibacterial coating (1 ) and sodium in the glass susbtrate (3).
