Class 46 A water screening device for river water comprises a pair of parallel annular flange screens 7, Fig. 1, rigidly connected together by a central barrel 6 to brace one another, so that unscreened water 11, 12 may pass through the screens from the outside to the inside to be screened, and other unscreened water may flow into or through the barrel, the device rotating within a pit or chamber. The device is rotatably mounted on shaft 8 and is rotated through the shaft or a gear ring on one of the flanges 7. Radiating arms 10 which may be cross-braced or of the cantilever type are carried by the shaft 8 or the central barrel and support the flanges 7 and may act as vanes to assist in the rotation. As shown in Fig. 2, three screening devices are mounted in pits 2 formed in a concrete structure 1, an inlet water channel leading to the outside of each flange 7, and a screened outlet leading from each section 13 to a pump chamber. Water jets 16 operating against the inner faces of the screens and outer face of barrel 6 wash deleterious matter into externally mounted troughs 17. Also platform 18 and hoods or baffles 19 are provided. The barrel 6 may be perforated to act as a screen, or it may be imperforate, and in either case the ends may be open for free flow of water or covered by screens. In a modification more than two flange screens are provided. |
