PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a flow of paper in a paper feeder for separating the paper by passing air through between the paper by blowing air upon the side edge of a plurality of sheets of paper of an upper part of stacked paper. SOLUTION: This paper feeder includes a paper sucking-carrying part for sending out the paper to a paper carrying passage by detecting suction of the paper in a carrier belt by a suction detecting sensor, a paper detecting sensor for detecting the paper in the paper carrying passage, a duct, eaves arranged on the upper side of an air blowout port of the duct, a blowout port lifting part, an air-blowing part, and a control part for controlling the air-blowing part, the blowout port lifting part and the paper sucking-carrying part so that an air blowout port is lowered to a first stopping position when the paper detecting sensor detects the paper, by sending out the sucked paper to the paper carrying passage, by lifting up to a second stopping position when detecting suction, by maintaining the air blowout port in the first stopping position when the suction of the paper is not detected.
