PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the convenience of a monitoring photography mode in a camera system. SOLUTION: A camera system 1 includes an exchange lens 2 and a camera body 3. The camera body 3 includes an imaging part 71, a contrast detection unit 31, a focus deviation amount detection unit 5, and a body microcomputer 12. The contrast detection unit 31 detects a contrast value from image signals of an object obtained with the imaging part 71, and detects a focusing state of an optical images on the basis of the contrast value. The focus deviation amount detection unit 5 detects the focusing state of the optical images by a phase difference detection method. The body microcomputer 12 selects one of the contrast detection unit 31 and the focus deviation amount detection unit 5 on the basis of lens information of the exchange lens 2 side.
