The sensor i.e. vision sensor (1), has a hardware-processor unit (3) arranged between an image recorder (2) and a software-processor unit (4). Actual position and orientation of an object are determined and stored as reference position and reference orientation in the hardware processing unit. Region of interest (ROI) mask is repositioned in the hardware-processor unit as dynamic ROI mask such that relative position of the mask is changed corresponding to change of actual position and orientation with respect to the reference position and reference orientation. The hardware-processor unit is selected from an application specific integrated circuit, a complex programmable logic device or field programmable gate array. The software-processor unit is of a digital signal processor and a microcontroller.
