PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in order to stabilize a fixing process of a fixing device, an electrophotographic image forming apparatus maintains constant fixability by changing the speed of paper passage in accordance with the paper thickness of a printing medium, however, the thicker the printing medium is, it is necessary to lower the speed at which the printing medium is passed, which results in a decrease in printing speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: heating sections (30, 33, 350, and 2a) that heat recording paper 50 with a toner image 58 transferred thereto; a pressure applying section (32) that forms a predetermined nip portion 60 by applying pressure to the heating sections; a conveying drive means for driving at least the heating sections or the pressure applying section in order to convey the recording paper 50 at a predetermined conveying speed in a predetermined direction via the nip portion; and a pressure quantity control means (34, 35, 37, 36, 28, 27, and 42b) that control an amount of pressure applied by the pressure applying section.
