The method involves detecting traffic-relevant information related to a surrounding field of multiple road users, where the traffic-relevant information comprises information detected by mechanisms and the road users. The detected traffic-relevant information is transmitted to a central control unit (2) in the form of surrounding field data that is represented as a surrounding field model. Traffic routing data describing the surrounding field of one of the road users is transmitted from the surrounding field model to the corresponding road user for traffic routing by the control unit. An independent claim is also included for a system for automatic traffic routing.
