<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone that incorporates a remote control sound muting circuit and mechanism to simply mute or reduce the sound of audiovisual equipment therearound, such as a remote control television, when a call is answered or made. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The movement of a permanent magnet 2 in synchronization with the movement of a hook 1 at the time of a call over a telephone turns OFF, ON, and OFF a magnet-sensitive switching element 3, such as a reed switch, as a change in magnetic force which turns weak, strong, and weak to cause a built-in remoter control sound muting signal generating circuit to transmit an infrared signal to mute or reduce sound or to resume the original sound to the audiovisual equipment, thus enabling the muting, reduction, etc. of the sound of the audiovisual equipment in synchronization with the movement to lift or replace a telephone receiver.
