<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cancer stem cell marker gene useful for diagnosing solid cancers, especially an initial stage or recurrence of breast cancer, a diagnostic tool for first occurrence or recurrence of solid cancer using such marker gene, and a prophylactic or a therapeutic agent for first occurrence or recurrence of solid cancer using such marker gene as a molecular target and a cancer stem cell as a target. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for testing first occurrence or recurrence of solid cancer includes a step of measuring an expression level of a solid cancer stem cell marker gene in a biological sample collected from a test object by using a transcription product or translation product of the gene as an object. The prophylactic or therapeutic agent for first occurrence or recurrence of solid cancer includes a substance suppressing expression or activity of a solid cancer stem cell marker gene.
