PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which reliably detects a gas and its concentration in each part in a storage part without entangling gas suction hose. SOLUTION: The gas detection system is provided with a horizontally moving means 1 installed above a storage part for storing wastes and movable in a horizontal plane; a vertically moving means 13 installed in the horizontally moving means 1 and movable in the vertical direction; a gas suction hose 22 for suctioning gas from the tip end installed in the horizontally moving means 1, wound around the vertically moving means 13 and a winding means 20, and having a tip end part fixed in the up and down moving means 13; a gas detection device 25 installed in the horizontally moving means 1, detecting a gas suctioned from the gas suction hose 22, and transmitting the data showing the detection results; and a control device 30 for receiving the data transmitted from the gas detection device 25.
