PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant operation condition monitoring method which can easily perform calculations for determining a Mahalanobis distance and quickly determine whether a plant is being operated normally. SOLUTION: The plant operation condition monitoring method includes: the process (A) for classifying state quantities of many monitoring items of a plant into data groups including state quantities of a smaller number of and a plurality of monitoring items; the process (B) for calculating a Mahalanobis distances from the state quantity of each data group; the process (C) for selecting the maximum value of the Mahalanobis distance calculated for each data group; the process (D) for comparing the selected maximum value to a preset threshold; and the process (E) for determining the presence or absence of abnormalities in the plant on the basis of the comparison result.
