PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using a transfer belt having a large coefficient of friction between the transfer belt and a photoreceptor, which prevents a significant color shift even in continuous image formation. SOLUTION: The color printer 1 includes: a drive motor 33 which rotationally drives the intermediate transfer belt 11; a torque meter 34 which measures a drive torque value of the drive motor 33; and a control section 35 which corrects the rotating speed of the drive motor 33 based on the drive torque value obtained by the torque meter 34. In the case the obtained value is positive, the control section 35 reduces the rotating speed of the drive motor 33, In the case the obtained drive torque value is negative, the control section 35 increases the rotating speed of the drive motor 33.
