The unit has a valve piston held in a housing and moved in a piston longitudinal axis (X), and a capacitive sensor (10) for detecting a position of the valve piston. The capacitive sensor is placed in the housing and arranged such that the valve piston is partly moved in a detection area of the capacitive sensor. The capacitive sensor comprises two plates (18, 20) and an electronic component (24), where the plates are placed opposite to each other. The valve piston is arranged between the two plates that are arranged in a plane that runs parallel to the piston longitudinal axis. The electronic component is designed as a capacitance to digital converter (CDC).
