<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery capable of alleviating thermal runaway inside the battery, without degrading its characteristics in a short term or a long term. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery is provided with a case 2 housing a cathode 3, an anode 4, and electrolyte solution inside, and a housing part 6 arranged inside the case 2 and housing a thermal runaway palliative matter of a liquid state consisting of a thermal runaway palliative of at least a liquid state gelatinized or thickened and a gelatinizing agent or a thickening agent.
