PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a good image with little transfer failure by determining a set value for secondary transfer bias according to the state of a cartridge or toner on an intermediate transfer body even when the charged amount of the toner is varied due to an installed environment, durable situation or consumption situation, etc., of a cartridge in a color image forming apparatus of a tandem method-an intermediate transfer method-a cartridge method. SOLUTION: A control means 100 determines a bias value that is applied to a secondary transfer member 75 according to the information of durability stored to a storage medium 12 of individual cartridges regarding a cartridge 10 included in respective image forming stations UY, UM, UC and UK and the order of image formation in the image forming station having that cartridge.
