A covering device suitable for a back box 201 of a socket point located on a support structure 203, the covering device 801 comprising a plate member 803 having a perimeter no greater than the perimeter of the back box, wherein the covering device 801 is configured to protect a recessed portion of the back box during application of plaster and/or paint to the support structure. The covering device may be configured to be detachably mounted over the recessed portion of the back box and may further comprise fixing means 805. The covering device may comprise at least one stabilising portion 807 and may further comprise a thinned section 809 which can be broken away to aid removal of the cover.
