The device has a tread strip (12) and a signal transducer that responds to treading on the tread strip and whose output signal is provided to the door controller to cause the door to be held open or reversed. A front strip profile (8) of elastic material arranged near the edge of the passenger compartment extends over the entire door width in a counter profile (16) of the tread strip and contains a full width signal transducer for door control.
