<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rigid and highly cost-effective retaining device between a hydraulic lash adjuster and a rocker arm for retaining a ball plunger in the rocker arm. <P>SOLUTION: A reciprocating lever 30 for a valve train assembly 20 is provided, including a receiving portion 52 and at least one retaining feature 74. The receiving portion 52 is a member for selectively receiving a member 36 that is actuated by the reciprocating lever 30. An actuation direction D is also included and is defined by an actuation axis A, wherein the reciprocating lever 30 selectively actuates the member 36. The at least one retaining feature 74 is located at the receiving portion 52 of the reciprocating lever 36.
