PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can favorably control the delay of an output response for an output signal related to image forming. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming means which forms an image on a medium to be recorded; an applying means which generates a prescribed output signal It and applies the output signal It to the image forming means; and a controlling means which generates a controlling signal to be provided to the applying means so that the value of the output signal is controlled to be within the prescribed targeted range, and which controls the applying means in a start-up mode to start the applying means and in a normal mode following the start-up mode by means of the controlling signal. The controlling means sets the initial control signal value (Initial_Duty), which is the control signal value (PWM value) for the first prescribed time period K1 from the start of the start-up mode, higher than the control signal value (PWM value) immediately after the first prescribed time period in the start-up mode.
