PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving plasma display panel, surely generating discharge while suppressing power consumption. SOLUTION: In a subfield group, in each of one subfield corresponding to luminance gradation in each pixel based on an input video signal and at least one succeeding subfield succeeding to the one subfield, a drive pulse for transiting a discharge cell from an ON state to an OFF state (or from the OFF state to the ON state), is applied to a plasma display panel 50. In this case, the succeeding subfield in which the drive pulse is applied so as to evade a position where the drive pulse is applied to one of mutually adjacent discharge cells and the drive pulse is not applied to the other discharge cell is determined.
