<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary impact tool capable of switching at least a 1-speed impact mode and a drill driver mode which can shift to 2 speeds and is different from the impact mode while suppressing the size enlargement due to increase of a transmission mechanism to the minimum. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotary impact tool includes a switching means for switching the impact mode and the drill driver mode, and also includes a multi-stage deceleration means capable of shifting to at least 3 speeds. The multi-stage deceleration means includes at least two or more planetary gear change stages and at least one or more deceleration stages. Further, in the 3 speeds which the deceleration means can shift to, at least one of the planetary gear change stages always operates in a deceleration status. Among the 3 speeds, one is made to be the impact mode, and two are made to be the drill driver mode, which can suppress the enlargement of the whole size to the minimum and can improve the usability of the drill driver mode.
