<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow storage means such as a SDRAM to be accessed at a high speed and also a color image to be formed at a high speed even if a scan periodic signal is fluctuated in a polygon drive system or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tandem color image formation apparatus includes: a laser index sensor for detecting the scan period of a laser beam light to be scanned on an Y color photoreceptor drum; a reference signal generation unit 110 for generating an ACV signal for memory control based on a RIND signal obtained from the sensor; the SDRAM 303 for storing image data with the amount of delay set for each image formation unit; and a SDRAM control unit 113 for executing writing of image data only in a main scanning effective image region into the SDRAM 303 and reading thereof from the SDRAM 303 based on the ACV signal obtained from the reference signal generation unit 110.
