<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing spray nozzles by which a state of spray nozzles used for the secondary cooling of a slab in a continuous casting machine is correctly and efficiently diagnosed, and to provide a diagnosing device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: While a measurement box 10 is connected to a dummy bar and moved between slab guide rolls, a heating unit 11 is heated to a prescribed temperature (e.g., 500 to 1,000°C) close to a slab temperature by a heater 21, further, the surface 11s of the heating unit 11a is cooled by cooling water from spray nozzles, the temperature change in the vicinity of the surface 11s in the heating unit 11 at that time is measured by a thermocouple 22 and is recorded in the data recording apparatus of a recording unit 12, and, based on the temperature change of the heating unit recorded at that time, the state of the spray nozzles is diagnosed.
