PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly extract a representative image useful for a user from consecutive images. SOLUTION: A digital camera 1 includes an imaging element 12 and continuously performs imaging to generate a plurality of image data, and obtains consecutive images. In the digital camera 1, a motion detecting unit 15 detects motion between captured images constituting the consecutive images and detects a moving object appearing in the consecutive images. A consecutive shooting scene classifying unit 281 identifies a change of state of the moving object in the consecutive images based on detection results by the motion detecting unit 15, and classifies the consecutive images into consecutive shooting scenes. A consecutive image dividing unit 283 divides the consecutive images at positions corresponding to the consecutive shooting scenes having been classified by the consecutive shooting scene classifying unit 281, and extracts the captured image at the divided position as a representative image.
