PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new, improved and effective method for treating diseases and conditions, particularly neurological and cardiac diseases and conditions in humans.

SOLUTION: There is provided an isolated cell population wherein cells of the isolated cell population are derived from bone marrow; >91% of the cells of the cell population co-express cell surface polypeptides CD49c and CD90; the cells of the isolated cell population express at least one trophic factor; the cells of the isolated cell population do not express polypeptide CD34, CD45 or bonesialoprotein (BSP); and the cell population maintains a doubling time of≤30 h after 30 cell doublings. Furthermore, a pharmaceutical composition includes the cell population.
