<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize power consumption, and to obtain an image of high picture quality even at photographing with high sensitivity. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging element includes: a plurality of pixels (201) configured to output electric signals obtained through photoelectric conversion; a floating diffusion amplifier configured to amplify the electric signals; an amplifier (211) configured to amplify the electric signals amplified by the floating diffusion amplifier; and a capacitor (212) configured to vary the gain of the amplifier (211).
