[Also in Group X] An automatically-controlled ventilation device comprises a casing 2, Fig. 1, having an air inlet 3 and an air outlet 8, a valve 13 movable in the casing in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the wind pressure acting thereon, a vane 12 movable by wind pressure and connected with the valve 13 tending to move the latter into the closed position and springs 15 tending to move the valve 13 into the open position, the vane 12 being so positioned as to form part of the wall of the air passage between the air inlet 3 and the valve 13. As shown the vane 12 and valve 13 are slidable on a pair of wires 14 and a baffle 5 is provided to direct the wind against the vane. A small clearance is provided between the vane 12 and the casing 2, the space 11 behind it being vented by a duct 9 connected to the outlet 8. In a modification the vane is pivoted and connected by a rod and lever to the arms which support a part cylindrical valve, the latter being pivoted at its centre of curvature. The valve is biased by a weight into the open position and is turned towards the closed position by the wind acting on the vane. In a further form, Fig. 3, which is particularly for vehicles, the casing 38, 44 is a drum having an inlet duct 42 and an outlet one 43, a member being pivoted therein on a pin 34. The pivoted member forms a valve 45, regulating the outlet 52, and a vane 33 connected by side plates 46, a curved baffle 35 being provided to direct the air against the vane 33. A. spring 36 connected between the pin 34 and the baffle 35 tends to move the valve to the open position shown where the vane 33 abuts against a stop 51. The space 50 behind the vane 33 is vented by one or more ducts 40 having an inlet 39 and outlet 41.</p> |
