A method for removing scale from hot billets of rolling mill rolls by rapid quenching of their surfaces by stationary water jets of low pressure that form a field of variable pressure on the cooling surface. Water jets combined into individual sections form on the cooling surface hydrodynamic pressure, the value of which depending on the fall of surface temperature is progressively lowered and critical mode of bubble boiling is maintained on the billet surface. The billet simultaneously with translation motion is rotated around its longitudinal axis at a variable speed, at which the oscillation frequency of variable pressure on its surface coincides with the resonant frequency of formation and separation of steam bubbles, that is controlled by the reaction of electric current induced in an induction coil. |
