PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal type tumble drier having a classification function. SOLUTION: The horizontal type tumble drier including a rotary cylinder 10 having a dried object supply opening 41 at its one end side and a dried object discharge opening 57 at the other end side, and rotatable around the axis, and a steam tube 11 for heating the inside of the rotary cylinder 10, and heating and drying the dried object charged from the supply opening 41 of the rotary cylinder 10 by the steam tube 11 in a process of discharging the dried object from the discharge opening 57 has a gas blowing means for blowing a carrier gas from one end side and discharging it from the other end side through the inside of the rotary cylinder 10, and an exhaust hood 55 having a plurality of through holes 50 formed in the circumferential direction at an end at the other end side of the rotary cylinder 10, and covering the entire end at the other end side of the rotary cylinder 10, the dried object discharge opening 57 is formed at a lower section of the exhaust hood 55, a carrier gas exhaust opening 56 is formed at the upper section, and a clearance L between an outer face of the rotary cylinder 10 and the carrier gas exhaust opening 56 satisfies L>0.3D where an inner diameter of the rotary cylinder 10 is D.
