PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thread which can be suitably used as a fishing line which has much smaller ductility and much larger mechanical strength, is excellent in wear resistivity, anti-cutting property or the like, and has a freely changeable specific gravity. SOLUTION: The thread comprises as follows. A thread body includes a core thread consisting of an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene filament whose weight-average molecular weight is 200,000 or more, and a coating layer which coats the periphery thereof and consists of an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene whose weight-average molecular weight is 200,000 or more, and is heated by the temperature which is the melting point of the ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene or higher so as to be stretched.
