<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a material for a label surface of an external storage medium which changes color by laser beam irradiation and insert the medium upside-down into a drive to print the label surface by the laser beam. <P>SOLUTION: The drive for the external storage medium, includes an external storage medium loading section, a means for reading data from the external storage medium, a means for writing data to the external storage medium, and a label information writing means for writing the label information on the label surface area of the external storage medium.
