<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable image density even in high-speed printing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A satisfactory image density is not held because excessive toner is collected in an edge portion of an image caused by an edge effect to bring about a phenomenon of densifying the edge portion, when a light emitting period of a laser diode is short. An edge density is restrained therein from increasing, by reducing an overshooting rate to moderate a waveform in a leading-up part of a light output, when the light emitting period of the laser diode is short. In the contrary, an edge of the image is expressed sharply, by enhancing the overshooting rate to overshoot the leading-up part of the light output, when the light emitting period of the laser diode is long.
