PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for electric double layer capacitor that can make electrostatic capacity per unit volume larger and also make internal resistance smaller than a conventional electrode for electrochemical element. SOLUTION: The electrode for electric double layer capacitor is formed by bonding an electrode composition layer containing active carbon activated with steam, active carbon activated with alkali metal hydroxide, and a binder to a current collector via a conductive adhesive layer containing carbon particles and containing a polymer not containing an epoxy group as a binder. The electrode for electric double layer capacitor is obtained by a manufacturing method including a process of forming the conductive adhesive layer containing the carbon particles and containing the polymer not containing the epoxy group as the binder on at least one surface of the current collector, and a process of forming the electrode composition layer containing the active carbon activated with the steam, the active carbon activated with the alkali metal hydroxide, and the binder on the conductive adhesive layer.
