PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which when activated carbon is washed so as to obtain highly purified activated carbon having a low impurity content, the amount of washing water to be used can be reduced. SOLUTION: The method for producing highly purified activated carbon includes: a process for washing activated carbon containing an inorganic acid with water at a temperature lower than its boiling point; and a process for washing the washed activated carbon with a basic substance which is removable by heating.
