<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a solid state imaging element, along with the solid state imaging element, of reduced cost and higher precision in movement detection, as well as higher sensitivity. <P>SOLUTION: The solid state imaging element has a movement detection mode for detecting movement of a subject and an imaging mode for imaging the subject. It includes a plurality of pixels 12 arranged in matrix and a differential circuit 18 for acquiring a difference between two pixel signals. Each of the pixels 12 includes a light receiving element 10 which generates pixel signal by photoelectric conversion, and a storage section 11 for storing pixel signal. In the movement detection mode, a difference between the past pixel signal stored in the storage section 11 and a current pixel signal from the light receiving element 10 is used to detect movement. When movement is detected, the movement detection mode is switched to the imaging mode. Then in the imaging mode, a subject is imaged. The number of pixels 12 used for detecting movement in the movement detection mode is less than the number of pixels 12 used for imaging in the imaging mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
