摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a refrigerant is retained in an unused refrigerant circuit, leading to shortage of the refrigerant amount, and obtain appropriate effects even when a variable speed compressor is used, in a refrigerator reducing electric power consumption by switching a refrigerant flow passage during normal operation and overload operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A receiver 5 and an auxiliary condenser 8 are provided on the downstream side of a flow passage switching mechanism 4, and a retaining refrigerant is recovered to the low pressure side via an unused normal expansion mechanism 6 or overload expansion mechanism 9. The refrigerator includes the variable speed compressor 2. Even when the speed of the variable compressor 2 is increased to a predetermined value or more, the overload operation state is determined and the flow passage switching mechanism 4 is appropriately switched.
