PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roller with built-in motor, for reducing the number of components and assembling steps in order to solve a problem in a clutch mechanism, which is caused by limiting the movement of a clutch plate in an axial direction. SOLUTION: The roller with built-in motor includes the clutch plate 13 connected to a rotary shaft 10, a case 15 fixed to a drive drum 5, a cover 18 fixed to the case 15, a shaft 19 inserted in an insertion hole 16 of the cover 18, a sliding plate 22 having a pawl portion 21 freely fitted in a clutch connection hole 20 by the movement of the shaft 19, a return spring 26 which presses the sliding plate 22 and biases the pawl portion 21 in the direction to fit into the clutch connection hole 20, and an operation means 27 which moves the sliding plate 22 and removes the pawl portion 21 from the clutch connection hole 20 to release the clutch.
