PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable type image projection apparatus capable of projecting an image proper to an arbitrary projecting surface regardless of the projection direction and the irregularities of the projecting surface. SOLUTION: An image projecting means 81 projects the image on the projecting surface. A projected-image photographing means 82 photographs a projected image as the image displayed on the projecting surface when the image projecting means 81 projects the image on the projecting surface. A correction-information generating means 83 generates correction information for projection image correction on the basis of a mode difference between an image projected by the image projecting means 81 and a projected image photographed by the projecting-image photographing means 82. A conversion image generating means 84 generates a conversion image by converting the projected image on the basis of the correction information. The correction information generating means 83 generates the correction information on the basis of a mode difference with the image generated in the projected image depending on the direction of projecting the image the image projecting means 81 or the mode of the projecting surface.
